Riverbed and Riparian Area

  1. Students should collect photographs of different rivers and bring them to school.
  2. Ask them first to separate pictures that represent the natural form of a riverbed from pictures that represent modified rivers.
  3. Ask students to line photos according to the section (upper/middle/lower) of a river they represent. They can help themselves with worksheets.
  • Let them describe the riparian area and what they think about the living conditions in each of these rivers from collected photographs.
  • Which river do they think can better clean itself and why?
  • What is the difference to natural rivers? (loss of habitats and biodiversity).
