- Take an open marker and drop it on the model to create a trace of it on the surface of the model. This is the point of our pollution (input of untreated wastewater of a city, oil spill or something similar). Discuss with students what they think about how the pollution will spread. Then we put some dry food coloring to that spot, spray the model with water and observe the spreading of color through the model:
- How does the pollution spread through a water basin? Point out how the water spreads out the pollution into the lower parts of the basin.
- Use different locations of pollution and observe the model. How the pollution spreads through the model when you put the pollution on the ridgeline?
